The always fabulous Seo In Young

Apparently it's a week for comebacks and new releases. Another fave of mine, Seo In Young, has also released a new single titled "Wash", which is part of her latest album release "Lov-Elly Part 02" (Lov-Elly was the title of one of her previous album releases).

Seo In Young has been around for quite a while. She debuted as part of the female idol group "Jewelry", and has been working at a solo career since 2007.  I like Seo In Young for a lot of reasons:

• She's a crazy, outspoken girl!

In a word, she's spitfire. She's a favorite in Korea for their variety and reality game shows since she rarely backs out of an argument, and she always speaks out her mind (even if sometimes what comes out of her mouth is a little rude or condascending). I guess that's the beauty of her personality... people get drawn to her honesty and wit (which sorts of makes sense, since here in the Philippines, Kris Aquino is such a big name for exactly the same reason). 

Her outrageous behavior and "brattiness" (if there were ever such a word hehehe!) has given her the infamous title of "Korea's Paris Hilton". For the most part, she is greatly misunderstood... but people love and adore her for that too.

• She's got a fabulous sense of style!

When you're called "Korea's Paris Hilton", that doesn't just come with the attitude... it comes with a whole closet-ful of reasons! She's fashion forward, and isn't afraid to experiment with what she wears. She's also been known to wear some of the snazziest shoes I've seen on Korean TV.

• That voice of hers is to die for!

Seo In Young is well known for her talent too. She was one of the main vocalists for "Jewelry" when she started off. Her powerful and sexy  deep-set voice has always been used for everything from dance tracks to soulful ballads. My personal favorite is her ballad "Written As Love, Sung As Pain".

In her tradition of belting out awesome ballads, she has a new song out titled "Wash". I haven't had a chance to listen to the song with English subs since the song was just released yesterday.

When the song started out, it started a bit slow for me since she was singing in such a low key. You could barely hear what she was saying for most of the first few seconds. But the song began to pick up after the end of the first verse, and I heard In young again. I've always appreciated her emotional rendering of ballads since she can easily shift between high and low tones quickly, giving her ballads depth and emotional tension.

I liked the images that were released for her album too. Without even knowing the English translations for the song "Wash", I get the feeling the song is about the flighty feeling of loneliness one feels being in love, especially if that feeling in unrequited. Well, I'll see if my hunch is right when the video gets released, and somebody takes the time to translate the song.

The MV teaser for "Wash" was also released online a couple of days prior to the release of the single. The scene is haunting, with only the female lead in focus in front of a dresser putting on make-up. But flashes of memories come up, and scenes of the female lead comes up showing her in different emotional states.  When you watch the teaser together with the song, the range of the drama evoked by the song is heightened.

I will be looking forward to the MV release, since it'll put the entire song in the proper emotional context. When it does, will be posting it for everyone to enjoy!
