TRAX and Super Junior are two legends in Korean pop. TRAX was one of the few rock bands that ever saw success in Korea in the last decade, although the group has been on hiatus since 2010 with the release of their last mini-album. As for Super Junior, they hold the distinction of being the first and still the largest functioning male idol group in the Korean music industry (they initially started off with 13 members, but now are currently down to 10 members with two members on leave and one having terminated his contract with SM Entertainment). One of Super Junior's sub-units, Super Junior-M (utilizing 6 members in the current roster), is currently busy doing promotions in Taiwan and China.

With both groups in hiatus, it's only natural that the members pursue other projects to hone their craft. Jung Mo, the main guitarist of TRAX, and Heechul, one of the resident radio DJ's and hosts of Super Junior, came together and created a project group called "M&D" (which, based on the press releases, stand for "Midnight and Day", and also stand for the initials of their neighborhoods in Seoul). What makes the arrangement even more convenient is the fact that they both belong to the same managing agency - SM Entertainment.

Among the roster of SM Entertainment artists, I would say that Heechul and Jung Mo have a lot of experience on their hands that would allow for them to produce a digital single rather easily. Heechul is vocalist with credible talent (although a lot of people would contest that altogether --- but I'd rather not get into that) and has a good grasp of trends in music (since he used to DJ one of the most popular radio shows in Seoul - "Youngstreet"), and Jung Mo is a superb instrumentalist. It's not surprising that they would just bump their heads together and create some magic in their studios.

The question is --- "What kind of song would you eventually come up with when you put together a K-pop and a K-rock artist?" It's an interesting mix that yields a particularly interesting result titled "Close Your Mouth".

"Close Your Mouth" is the nearest that any Korean band has ever gotten to emulating J-rock, at least in my own humble opinion. This pop-rock track is reminiscent of the tons of J-rock opening and ending themes I've heard in the anime series that I've watched since I was a kid. Heechul sounds surprisingly good and seems very comfortable in this genre of music. After hearing him time after time in Super Junior singing the falsetto parts in their songs, it's nice to hear a different side of him for a change.

The theme of the song is surprisingly different too. Although it does tackle the all-too-common theme of break-ups in K-pop, it lends a twist to the situation by lending some of that boy-diva aura of Heechul. To heck with sad sappy love songs where the guy begs for love to come back --- M&D is out to play, and let's go of the chains of failed relationships. If anyone b*****s out... well, that's what the title of this song is for.

UPDATE!!! "Close Your Mouth" by M&D (MV Only)
The video is absolutely hilarious and only could've come from the mind of somone
like Heechul! It's a relatively simple video of Heechul walking around a karaoke
lounge coming from a fight with his girlfriend (played by Jia of Miss A). While
walking around he sees and greets his friends. It's ingenious and wicked funny!
No subs yet though... if you need subs, the vid with English Subs is still available
for your viewing pleasure.

The two Kims of M&D certainly delivered big time with their new single. They promised a new sound with a surprising twist in their digital single release, and they did that big time with "Close Your Mouth". SM Entertainment has another gold mine in their hands --- M&D is definitely a project group to watch out for in the near future!
