So many new singles, so little time... (Part I)

We've got a storm of new singles this month ---
(L to R): Cha Ji Yeon, Cheon Soa and MC Shin Gun, and Lady Jane

Apparently summer time in Korea is the best time to drop a new album or to make a comeback. It makes a lot of sense since most kids are out of school and have the time to check out new stuff online or in music stores --- it's a sure fire way to ensure your stuff gets listened to. For the past three or so weeks, the trends been drop after drop of new digital singles and albums just raring to get an earful of that summer pie!

I was able to shortlist some digital singles that I'd like to share with everyone, but the list was just a bit too hefty to cover in one blog post. I thought it best to divide the post into two so it would be easier to digest and appreciate the content. Definitely we've got some variety in this list... so there's something for everyone!

Cha Ji Yeon - "Where Are You" / 그대는 어디에 (feat. Im Jae Bum)

Based on what I've read about Cha Ji Yeon, this single is apparently her debut single, although she's already a professional in her own right since she's been active in musicals for quite some time. Her foray into the Korean music industry started when she guested with Im Jae Bum in MBC's singing show "I Am A Singer" (it's a singing contest which features well-known singers who are asked to sing classic Korean ballads and songs).

Owing to her experience in musical theater, she has exceptional presence both on stage and in her MV for her debut single, "Where Are You". Her vocal range is amazing, and is well-suited for ballads. Definitely looking forward to more music from her!

The ForM Project - "If This Is A Dream, Farewell" / 사랑이 꿈이라면 (feat. Jung Jin Ha)

I find it cool that this is the second time I'm featuring The ForM Project for an blog post. This group was also included in the last review of indie singles that I reviewed earlier this month (if you haven't read that post, you can click here to read the article).

The ForM Project (Female or Male) has come back with a follow-up release of the same song as a reply to the first single. This time the track is sung by a female vocalist, Jung Jin Ha, and it's interesting to see that even though it's practically the same song, the nuances in delivery are different (it would even be better though if I could find a translation of both songs).

MC Shin Gun and CheonSoa - "Maybe Maybe" / 어쩜 어쩜

The track is a collaboration between rapper MC Shin Gun and vocalist Cheonsoa. Again, it's unfortunate that I'm unable to find any information about these two artists, but from the look of things it's a good partnership since they came up with an interesting dance track that's got a catchy chorus, and effortlessly fuses together their very different musical styles.

Lady Jane and The Humming Urban Stereo - "Love Treatment" (feat. Untouchable)

Lady Jane's first claim to fame is being the girlfriend of Simon D, leader of the well-known hip-hop/rap group Supreme Team. With the kind of exposure and the circle of friends that she keeps with (e.g. Heechul and Chocoball), it wouldn't be surprising that someone as talented as her wouldn't be launching her own career in music. She's been active in the scene since 2010, and this time she serves up a catchy dance pop track in collaboration with Humming Urban Stereo and the rap dup, Untouchable.
